“Magkaisa”. A Winner for Misamis Occidental
June 5, 2017. An exciting day for students as this was the beginning of a new school year. But to the students of Looc National High School-Special Program in the Arts (LNHS-SPA) in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental there was more reason to be doubly excited. The reason is that they brought back to school with them the distinct honor of copping the grand prize of the nationwide Brigada Eskwela 2017 Jingle Composition Competition of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The Brigada Eskwela is an annual activity of the DepEd wherein stakeholders from the local government units (LGU-barangays & municipality), socio-civic organizations, the religious sector, parents and the community participate in the preparation of the schools prior to the opening of classes. The Brigada Eskwela was scheduled to be held on May 15-20, 2017 with the theme: “Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan Para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan”. To give more meaning and impact to the annual activity, the DepEd launched a nationwide jingle composition contest based on the said theme. Out of the many entries from elementary and secondary schools throughout the country, the jingle “MAGKAISA” composed and interpreted by students of the LNHS-SPA emerged as the grand prize winner. Mr. Ricardo Lapiz, the principal of LNHS, received the award during the national launching of Brigada Eskwela held on May 15, 2017 at Guadalupe, Cebu City. The official version of the song and music video which was aired on television, radio and in all public schools nationwide during the duration of the Brigada was sung and interpreted by ABS-CBN’s GOING BULILIT alumni.
LNHS-SPA brought honor not only to the school, the division and the region but also to the province. It should be noted that the Province of Misamis Occidental under the leadership of the Hon. Governor Herminia M. Ramiro has been supporting the LNHS-SPA.
To give due recognition to the outstanding achievement of LNHS-SPA, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan with the Hon. Board Member Pablo Stephen C. Ty of the first district as author/proponent passed a resolution during its regular session on May 29, 2017 commending LNHS-SPA for the honor they have brought to the province.
